On Sunday, April 23rd Penrose on Mass
participated in their 4th Annual Mass Ave Clean-Up. Members from the
community gathered to help pick up trash, weed flower beds, and paint curbs
along the mile long stretch of Mass Ave. Every year we kick off the day at 9 AM
and this year we were met with extremely cold temperatures, but that didn’t
stop all the amazing volunteers who showed up in record-breaking numbers to
give back to their community! Each block of Mass Ave is assigned a block leader
and then each block has roughly 10-15 volunteers helping to complete the work
that is required. All volunteers received a Mass Ave Indy T-shirt and free
transportation up and down the Ave courtesy of the Handlebar. The Handlebar is
always a great time! We listen to music and socialize while getting transported
to our clean up destination.
We utilize the Mass Ave Clean-Up as our Resident
event for the month to encourage our Residents to get involved and help build a
sense of community. It’s such a fun time giving back and meeting new people
around the neighborhood. Penrose on Mass is the only apartment community that
is a member of the Mass Ave Merchant Association so we really make a large
impact with our presence. Randi Ireland, who is on the board of directors for
Mass Ave Indy, oversees creating all the promotional material for the event and
helping organize it. Fun Fact: They actually gave her a mega phone this year to
help pump up the volunteers throughout the day. Needless to say, she loved it! Since
her time at Penrose the event has grown in numbers over the years. This year we
had over 100 volunteers come out and support; making it our largest clean up to
date. The praise and recognition we received from the Mass Ave community was the
cherry on top of a great day! You could tell we made an impact as the Ave
looked amazing once we were finished. It’s an event many of our Residents look
forward to each year, which makes us happy because we love our Mass Ave
Community and our Penrose Peeps!
